On Thursday, 16 May 2024, 6:30 pm at Villa Bengel and via livestream on Jakob Bengel's Instagram channel, with a welcoming address by Peter Wenzel and an introduction by Prof. Theo Smeets.
The Gemstone Pharmacy deals with the psychology of superstition, which manifests itself in the belief in healing stones and amulet jewellery. Abstract psychopharmacology, botanical remedies, inkblots and lucky charms form the framework for the "healing" stones. Drawing on the efficacy of belief or placebo and the psychosocial functions of jewellery, »The Gemstone Apothecary« explores the reflexive acceptance of beliefs that can serve as a balm for the human psyche in uncertain times.
